We are pleased to announce that by embarrassing ourselves and making a lot of people laugh,
we were able to raise money for rescue while holding a booth at the Central Florida Fairgrounds
during a dog show.
Though it was the Christmas season, we found people were not as willing to donate due to bills
piling up. So we did what we felt we had to do...we depended on humor to get the donations flowing.
We put antlers on our head and stood outside the booth with the money jar in hand. We told the
people at the food vendor not to put their change away that we would take it. We showed no shame
doing the "Reindeer Dance" for donations. (One lady paid us to stop, but her husband came back
and paid more for us to start again.)
Through it all, we had a great time. We laughed a lot and made the passers-by laugh too. A couple
of people even came back after getting their money to donate. At the end of the day, we raised
about $45 and were even able to educate a few.
This was our first time trying to raise money for rescue and we are very pleased with the fruits
of our labor. We are a new club and therefore do not have any foster homes available. However,
this money has been sent to a keeshond rescue club that has helped us out in the past. We wish we
could do more, but realize that every little bit helps and will continue to raise money and help
in any way we can.
